Astronomy received 18 entries for its 2010 Astroimging Contest in the Solar System category, including the Grand Prize entry (right) from Thomas Bader of Rheinfelden, Germany. This total solar eclipse occurred July 11, 2010, mainly over the Pacific Ocean. The image shows tremendous detail in the Sun’s corona, some prominences, and stars down to 11th magnitude. In addition, light reflecting off of Earth reveals some of the Moon’s major features.

Subscribers have access to the other 16 official contest entries.
